MAPP

Well the MA is underway, I can't believe it. I must admit I'm quite excited to actually get going. Its been a long time since I embarked on such an adventure, this is really going to challenge me. Now I sort of think I should have done this when I was younger and not wait for my 50's but as they say the 50's are the new 40's so here we go!!
I've been reading up on my daughters notes on critical reflection (its quite handy having 2 kids doing a degree)  hopefully she'll be about to proof read my work which will be really helpful. All those years of helping with homework will pay off. ๐Ÿ˜„ ๐Ÿ˜„
This first module will be really interesting as I pour my way through my teaching and performing life and discover the effects and impacts on my own work. What made me the way I am?
Teaching is what really floats my boat. I love engaging with young people and discovering different ways to rely the message and love of dance and its technique. Each day is new and each year brings a new challenge. As teachers we are constantly learning and society has its changing pressures on young people and so the way in which they engage with the world of dance changes.
I would love to discuss further the challenges of dance training and especially assessing. I find the process of assessing fascinating as we have to deliver a result on a subjective art form which can prove controversial.  Within a large college we become accountable with these assessments and results but we have to hold fast to credibility of the art form itself and maintain that utter and undivided love for the world of theatre.

  2. Hi Julie
I’m thinking very much along the same lines as you, particularly with us being similar ages ๐Ÿ˜Š. However, in the same light we would not have the same valuable knowledge and experience in younger years as we do now. The book by Jennifer Moon on our reading list conveys the importance of ‘experiental learning’
Although only five pages in, she gives scenarios throughout her life upon which she has reflected and carried forward into her book. I think the deeper we delve into our past years and the more reflections we make will carry us both forward in a positive way.
Like you, I’m so excited to start this journey and I would like to chat more about assessment and planning strategies.
I really hope this reply gets to you this time as the last one disappeared into cyber heaven! Oops
